Natural Fertility Over 40 — What the Research Says and What I Know From Experience
Natural Fertility Over 40 — What the Research Says and What I Know From Experience.
If you are over 35 and trying to conceive, you have probably been told — directly or indirectly — that your time is running out. That your eggs are ageing. That the odds are against you.
I want to offer you a different perspective. Not a denial of biology — but a more complete, more honest, and more hopeful picture.
Because I conceived naturally at 41. And I am not alone.
What the research actually shows
The narrative that fertility falls off a cliff after 35 is based on studies that are, in many cases, outdated. Some of the most widely cited statistics on age-related fertility decline come from French birth records from the 1700s — hardly a reflection of modern women's health, nutrition, and lifestyle.
More recent research paints a more nuanced picture. A study published in Obstetrics and Gynecology found that 82% of women aged 35-39 and 78% of women aged 40-44 who had regular unprotected intercourse conceived within a year. Not the dramatic cliff-edge we are so often warned about.
This does not mean age is irrelevant. Egg quality does decline with age and it is important to have honest conversations with healthcare professionals about your individual situation. But statistics are averages — and you are not an average. You are a unique woman with a unique biology and a unique journey.
What I know from experience
Beyond the research, I know this from my own journey and from the women I have worked with: the body's capacity to conceive is profoundly influenced by factors that have nothing to do with age.
The state of your nervous system. The beliefs running in your subconscious. The emotional weight you are carrying. The nourishment — physical, emotional, and spiritual — you are giving yourself.
I have seen women in their early forties conceive after doing deep subconscious healing work. After releasing grief they didn't know they were holding. After finally allowing their bodies to feel safe.
Age is a factor. It is not the whole story.
What supports natural fertility over 40
Based on my own experience and my work with women, here is what I have found most powerful:
Nervous system regulation. Chronic stress is one of the most significant and underaddressed barriers to conception. Learning to genuinely resource your nervous system — not just manage stress, but create a felt sense of safety in the body — is foundational.
Subconscious healing. The beliefs we hold about our age and our bodies directly affect our physiology. Rewriting the story "I am too old" at a subconscious level is not wishful thinking — it is science.
Nutritional support. Egg quality can be supported through nutrition, supplements, and reducing toxic load. Things like CoQ10, DHEA, antioxidants, and reducing heavy metals have all shown promise in research on egg quality over 40. Always work with a qualified practitioner for supplementation.
Reducing inflammation. A body that is inflamed — through diet, stress, environmental toxins, or unresolved emotional holding — is a body in a state of contraction. Gently clearing what doesn't belong creates more space for life.
Holistic support. Acupuncture, hypnotherapy, Reiki, yoga — these are not alternatives to medical care. They are complements to it. They address the layers that medicine often cannot reach.
A final word
If you are over 40 and still holding hope — trust that. Your intuition about your own body and your own journey is worth more than any statistic.
My book, Fertility Isn't Linear, was written for you. It shares everything I did, everything I learned, and everything I believe about what is truly possible when we approach fertility as the whole-body, whole-soul journey it actually is.
